if Sylvia Plath grew up on Judy Blume and livejournal
about
Julia Garza started taking notes for a future memoir at the age of 11, although she didn’t realize it at the time.
Julia earned a BA in journalism and an MS in library science before realizing the stories she most wanted to steward were her own. Often weaving in her experiences as the adult child of an alcoholic and her struggle with postpartum anxiety, her work seeks to share the stories we hear when we take the ghosts of the past for a walk. Folks describe her writing as “incisive” and “like Sex and the City meets Lady Bird.”
Born in Texas and raised in Upstate New York, Julia lives in Austin with her husband, three children, and several pets, including a flock of Lavender Orpington chickens. She has a weakness for iced coffee, romance novels, and John Mayer. When she’s not writing, she enjoys knitting, playing with watercolors, and reading with her kids.
